Who cares about Careline?
• LAST summer Councillor Martin Davies announced that he would be cutting the cost of Careline in order to save Camden £100,000 a year.
This meant sacking Careline staff and using a call centre who would then transfer the caller to Careline.
They approached three firms, none of whom were interested.
In desperation he contacted Invicta Telecare again offering them a signing-up fee of £67,000 and £334,000 for a five-year contract, (it took several phone calls to get the information).
In order to finalise the deal he required our written permission to sell our names and addresses to an unknown third party.
unfortunately he did not bother to write to us, so he has not got our permission.
Instead he has chosen to hide behind Mary McGowan, head of the Promoting Independence Group.
I was livid to receive a disgraceful, bullying letter from this lady containing a tear-off slip if I wished to opt out and stating that I would no longer be able to receive Careline services.
If she did not hear from me by February 18 she would assume that she had my approval. In other words silence gives consent.
By this devious approach I consider the council has sunk to the depths.
Incidentally just before he departed for his £3,000 freebie holiday in South Africa, Council leader Lib Dem Keith Moffitt told us his reason for going was to bring back helpful hints for Camden’s problems. I have yet to hear what pearls of wisdom he has brought back.
