Angry Dobbo to fight for school

HOLBORN and St Pancras MP Frank Dobson is demanding showdown talks with council leader Keith Moffitt over Camden’s controversial new school project.
Mr Dobson fired off a letter to Cllr Moffitt yesterday (Wednesday) urging him to find a site for a new school in the south of the borough, rather than the chosen site in Swiss Cottage.
The MP said: “The government has provided the money for a new school and they have given the council some leeway to come up with a proposition which benefits the children south of Euston Road and which relieves pressure on other Camden schools. This is the chance of a lifetime to get things right. If the council get it wrong, only the council will be to blame.”
Mr Dobson is angry that Camden told parents that they were hampered by strict government deadlines and threats of losing investment if they did not use a private sponsor – claims he has scotched through his own private research.
The New Journal revealed last week how education secretary Ed Balls had put in writing that Camden could have more time to develop its plans, paving the way for further investigation into converting the Eastman Dental Hospital in Gray’s Inn Road into a new school.
Mr Dobson told Cllr Moffitt: “I hope you will now agree to a root and branch review of the Swiss Cottage proposal and, for the first time, look seriously at the possible use of the Eastman Dental Hospital site in Gray’s Inn Road in the knowledge that the government is prepared to accept delay in building the new school.”
