So it’s farewell Jermain and a good buy from Arsene Wenger
IN the whole time that Arsene Wenger has been Arsenal manager, he has made three duff buys. First, Francis Jeffers: Thierry Henry demanded a fox in the box to score goals (thought that was your job, Thierry) and Arsenal ended up with Francis Jeffers. That’s like asking to be taken to the football for your birthday as a kid and ending up with surprise tickets to see Spurs.
Full of disappointment – it was wrong from the start.
Second, Jose Antonio Reyes:
Reyes was always promising to do something good but did very little. Apart from moan about the cold. Thierry gave up passing to him and Reyes was swapped for an equally rubbish Brazilian whose only talent was scoring against Liverpool.
Third, Richard Wright: Fact, there has not been a decent English goalkeeper since David Seaman hung up his gloves. Top Four Tottenham fans will tell you that. They see it all clearly now having watched Paul Robinson blunder his way through match after match. Richard Wright was a kind of Robbo prototype, it’s just Arsenal were just a little wiser than Spurs and soon got rid.
This time last year, I thought Wenger had boobed for a fourth time with Emmanuel Adebayor, such was his ability to miss from six yards and head wide from even closer. But I was wrong. They are singing his name loud down Ashburton Grove and, right now, nobody can stop him. And I’m glad he’s a Gunner.
SO, farewell and all the best, Jermain. I understand you had to go for the sake of your career, but all our fans are sad to have to say goodbye, and want to thank you for your service. We’ll miss you.
We had quality in our front four: yourself, Robbie and Dimitar, with Darren Bent as back-up. I just hope Keane and Berbatov don’t get any injuries or suspensions in the run-in.
But overall, the January transfer window cast light into the squad. Woodgate looks pure class and Hutton is strong, while Tottenham’s first Brazilian, Gilberto, is versatile.
Another plus is the emergence of Jamie O’Hara, who is like a new signing. He is the real deal – he can cover so many positions and, although perhaps he is best as a central midfielder, he had a blinder against Ronaldo.
How will the season pan out? If I knew, I’d be whispering it to my bookies. We are well placed to get into Europe through the cups.
Spurs belong at Wembley, and let’s hope we repeat the 1967 FA Cup final against Chelsea and give the fans what they deserve. In the UEFA Cup, Slavia Prague have not had the best of seasons. PSV in the following round will be a stiffer challenge, but we are strong.
