It’s sixth win on the run for Harriers women
THERE were double celebrations for the Highgate Harriers on Saturday when both the clubs women’s team and the veterans ran to glory at St Albans.
Esther Evans led Highgate women to their sixth successive title in the Metropolitan Cross-Country League when she won the race in 23 minutes, 38 seconds. Team-mate Svenja Abel hit home 20 seconds later to take runner-up spot as the Camden and Islington club claimed six positions in the top 10.
Competing against a field of 89 finishers, Anna McCutcheon came fourth, Kate Jenrick and Anne Curley finished sixth and seventh respectively and Jo Carritt finished 10th.
Meanwhile, in the veterans category, Highgate Harriers won the league for the first time in the club’s history with a 795 points haul.
In the junior ranks, Samara Williams finished just six seconds behind the winner in the under-17s race, finishing second with a time of 15.36. Club-mate Hannah Ashman was 21st.
The Highgate men’s team ended their cross-country season in style as they notched up 1,482 points to finish second on the day, and fourth overall.
Out of a field of 263 finishers, captain Henry Dodwell led the Harriers home in sixth place with a time of 26.22. Glenn Saqui and Saningo Martyn ended the race in seventh and 12th place respectively.
Elsewhere Highgate’s international distance runner Ben Noad won the Sidcup 10 miles road race on Sunday in 49mins 58secs.
