Big win for Lib Dem in by-election
LIBERAL Democrats kept up their strong record of by-election wins by romping to a victory in Fortune Green? on Thursday night.
Nancy Jirira won by a huge margin from closest challenger Heather Downham, the Conservative candidate. The NHS worker is the party’s first black councillor in Camden.
Ms Jirira said: “I look forward to working with the community on the issues that affect us all.”
The ward is a Lib Dem stronghold and it would have taken a massive upset for Cllr Jirira not to win.
Unlike recent by-election successes in Kentish Town and Haverstock which saw the Lib Dems gain from Labour, the party holds all three seats in Fortune Green.
Cllr Jirira takes the seat previously held by Jane Schopflin, who died just after Christmas.
