Arsenal ladies continue bid for glory
ARSENAL continued their bid for glory with back-to-back home wins in the Premier League and the FA Cup.
On Sunday the Gunners booked an FA Cup semi-final date against Lincoln City after coming from a goal behind to beat Birmingham at Meadow Park.
Becky Hall fired the visitors in front midway through the first-half. But Vic Akers’ side hit back to take a half-time lead thanks to goals from Julie Fleeting and Lianne Sanderson.
Sanderson continued her fine scoring form after the break when she grabbed her second of the game, before Alex Scott all but sealed victory with a 20-yard thunderbolt. Karen Carney profited from a blistering Arsenal counter-attack to complete the rout.
The north Londoners continued their winning run in the Premier League on Thursday despite throwing away a three goal advantage against Doncaster Rovers Belles.
Arsenal looked to be heading for a comfortable win thanks to strikes from Fleeting, Carney and Ciara Grant. But two goals from Emily Heckler and a strike from Vicky Exley saw Rovers haul themselves back in to the game to deservedly draw level.
The fight-back was eventually quelled when Fleeting nodded home her second of the game to seal a thrilling 4-3 victory.
