Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 6 March 2008

Hopes for Jubilee

• LESTER May is right (Jubilee Centre scandal, February 28) and we don’t want to see Jubilee Waterside Centre lying idle either.
We did as much as we could to prevent the centre from closing, including offering advice and additional funding. Despite this, Jubilee Waterside Centre Ltd went into liquidation and, to protect the building for the local community, we had to step in to recover it. When we did, we found that many of the fixtures, fittings and equipment within the centre, such as most of the climbing wall and all the canoes, were missing.
It may take some time to find another organisation to take over the lease and carry out the repairs needed to bring it back into use.
However, we are committed to doing all we can to make sure this fantastic facility reopens for schools, youth clubs and the local community as soon as possible.
Cllr Flick Rea
Executive Member for Culture
Camden Council
