Drummers look set to be big hit at the Albert Hall
USUALLY a drum roll indicates the star of the show is about to appear, but this time it’s the drummers who will be taking centre stage.
For the first time in its 10-year history, the borough’s bi-annual Festival of Music at the Royal Albert Hall, which includes pupils from every school in Camden, will see primary school youngsters dazzle with more than just their voices.
As part of a government scheme, Wider Opportunities, under-12s are being encouraged to play instruments.
Pupils from Richard Cobden school in Mornington Crescent and Hampstead Parochial in Hampstead have been practising their drum-beat, and met each other for the first time on Tuesday to rehearse the showstopper they will perform together to thousands next Wednesday, March 12, at 7pm.
Michael Pattison, 10, from St Pancras, who is playing an Agogo drum in the show, said: “The rehearsal was wicked – all the different drums and rhythms we can do.”
Pictured rehearsing at Richard Cobden, from left, are Parisa Preddy, 11, Lucas Rodd, 10, and Sammy Omary, 11, along with other young musicians who will play at the Albert Hall.
