Palm Sunday parade participants makes their way along Camden Road
Rain means Palm Sunday parade gets a rough ride!
CHRISTIANS celebrated the day Jesus Christ rode a donkey into Jerusalem with a traffic-stopping parade through Camden on Sunday. The Palm Sunday celebrations, the start of Holy Week that ends on Easter Sunday, drew more than 100 people to St Michael’s Church.
Larry the donkey led an “act of witness” from Oakley Square to the church in Camden Town.
A brass band led the march depicting the biblical story in which Jesus is welcomed into the Holy City to the sound of trumpets and revellers waving palm fronds.
The service was inter-faith, with Anglican, Catholic and Methodist churches attending.
Meanwhile, pouring rain could not dampen the spirits at The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin in Elsworthy Road.
A “procession of palms” walked down Primrose Hill from the historic vantage point and into the church. The congregation was given a dramatic reading of the Passion and Parish Eucharist.
