England’s rugby aces drop in…

Winchester Project surprise

ENGLAND rugby union stars David Strettle and Shane Geraghty stunned youngsters at the Winchester Project in Swiss Cottage on Tuesday when they dropped in to coach a special training session.
Harlequins winger Strettle and London Irish fly-half Geraghty joined in during one of the Winchester Project’s weekly multi-sports sessions, where they explained the rules behind rugby union before getting the under-14s group to take part in a series of drills and friendly matches.
Organised as part of this years Sport Relief calendar, the Winchester Project received a grant for £5,000 from the charity last summer to help promote personal development and social education by offering various sporting activities, including rugby and football.
The aim is to give youngsters positive distractions, and help deter them from getting involved in gang culture, criminal activity and substance misuse.
The multi-sports sessions are just some of the ongoing activities that are being held at the Winchester Project.
On Thursdays children aged four to eight years old can take part in games galore at the sports pitch in Winchester Road between 4.30pm and 5pm.
Meanwhile on Wednesday’s between 4pm and 6pm girls and boys can sign up for an Under-12s and Under-16s basketball competition. To find out more about the sporting events available at the Winchester Project, contact Lily on 020 7586 8731 or email sport@winchesterproject.org.uk
