Petition
• THE Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate who wrote to the New Journal last week regarding privatisation of GP surgeries does herself no favours by trying to exploit the issue.
A wide range of people in Camden from all parties and none have been working together to resist the involvement of United Health in our local practices, and it is extremely important to build a broad coalition of patients and others demanding that the primary care trust halt the process.
The record of Frank Dobson MP in opposing market reforms to the NHS is well known and even made him the target of the anger of Blair aide, Jonathan Powell.
Lib Dems who claim to want to stand up for our community would be better off having a word with the local Lib Dem councillors, who are privatising council housing, cutting services for the young and elderly, and slashing the voluntary sector that does so much to tackle the massive inequalities in Camden.
The Cantelowes Labour Party, with the Camden Road practice in our area, have put forward our objections in the strongest terms with the PCT about the involvement of United Health in any Camden GP practice.
We will work with the local campaign, regardless of party allegiance, to oppose privatisation.
We urge local people to sign the online petition calling for a halt to the involvement of United Health: http://petitions. pm.gov.uk/localGP.
