Martyns fuel Harrier lift off
THE Martyn family were in sparkling form on Friday when they donned their Highgate Harriers’ vests and took part in the Serpentine Athletic Club 5k road race. Nicky, who is considered one of the best veteran marathon runners in the country, just missed out on victory when he finished a split second behind winner Kevin Quinn with a time of 15.29.
The field of almost 200 finishers also included all three of his sons, with Saningo hitting home in 10th place, Santi taking 57th spot and Simon Martyn finishing 88th.
Elsewhere club-mates Alistair Lindsay and Daniel Higgins were also in action. Lindsay recorded a time of 1:14.31 to take sixth place out of a field of 1,630 finishers in the Paddock Wood half-marathon on Sunday.
Meanwhile Higgins continued his preparations ahead of the London marathon when he ran a time of 1:15.48 in the Bournemouth half-marathon.
