Primary school’s painting caretaker could be a constable in the making
AFTER ensuring the boiler room is ticking over and making sure the playground is tidy and safe, New End primary school caretaker Dennis McNulty indulges in his passion for painting.
He has used his skills to paint murals round the playground and always mucks in at Christmas to ensure the school have the best possible backdrops for their plays.
While the Easter holidays are quiet at the Hampstead school, self-taught artist Mr McNulty has been busy putting the finishing touches to see two of his works will be accepted into one of the most prestigious art events of the year – the Royal Academy’s summer exhibition.
Flushed with the success of a recent exhibition at nearby Burgh House, Mr McNulty has sent in two paintings featuring dolphins and a tiger for the curators of the show, which feature some of the country’s finest artists.
He said: “I chose two I really like and now I’m sitting back waiting for their decision.”
