Kid Conor captures cup for Reddot

REDDOT ran riot on Sunday when they retained our prestigious Challenge Cup with a magnificent victory over Archway Allstars at Wingate and Finchley’s Abrahams Stadium.
Despite going into the game as underdogs, Archway made a confident start and took a surprising lead as they unsettled the Reddot rhythm.
The goal sparked the Dots into life and it wasn’t long before their slick passing and constant pressure paid off.
It was left to the youngest player in the Reddot squad to pull the scores level, with 17-year-old Conor Langton netting the goal of the game with a powerful drive from the edge of the area.
Within minutes the Dots were in front when Jason Medford hooked the ball over his head, only to turn around in time to see it nestle in the back of the net to give Reddot a half-time advantage.
The unstoppable Paul ‘Trigger’ Reid all but ended the game as a contest when he bagged a quick-fire brace to take his personal tally to 30 goals for the season.
Captain Colm Lawlor capped off a man-of-the-match performance when he headed home Liam Barnabie’s late corner to seal a resounding 5-1 victory.
Mayor of Camden, Dawn Somper showed her support for the competition when she turned up to present the winners with their medals, handing Reddot the Challenge Cup for the third time in four years.
The trophy triumph added the finishing touches to a memorable treble for the Dots, who also won the Division One title and the Senior Cup.
Afterwards player-manager Micky Dowsett said: “I’d like to dedicate the cup victory to Martin Lovejoy and Steven Bruce who were unable to play today.
“They have both played vital parts in the team’s success and it was a shame that they had to miss the final.
“This has been our most successful season ever. We’ve scored 131 goals, broken all club records and won the treble.
“I couldn’t have asked for any more from my players.”

The future is bright for champions’ youth team

THE future looks bright for treble winners Reddot after their two youth teams went head-to-head in a special football tournament on Saturday, held at the Talacre Sports Centre in Kentish Town.
Reddot Youth and Reddot Celtic met in the final of the Gospel Oak Safer Neighbourhoods Championships. Organised to help bring communities together, scores of youngsters were presented with free football shirts and medals for taking part.
In a thrilling final, Daniel Glaude hit a hat-trick, while James Fox and Mark McCann scored two goals apiece to lead Celtic to a 7-3 victory.
