Saints’ old boy crowned champ
FORMER St Pancras boxer John McDermott won the vacant English Heavyweight title on Friday when he stormed to a commanding victory over Birmingham’s Pele Reid. In front of a packed house at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, ‘Big Bad’ John (pictured right) threw a barrage of punches including some vicious uppercuts as he stopped Reid in the second round of their scheduled 10 round contest.
McDermott is now being tipped to fight Danny Williams for the British title later this year.
