One for the album: Hampstead Under-16s after their last game
Emotional farewell as cup winners bow out in style
THERE were mixed emotions for players from Hampstead Football Club at the weekend. The Under-16s side said an emotional farewell to their fans on Sunday when they took on rivals Hendon in the final of the Harrow Youth League Cup in their last game together.
Hampstead only run sides up to the Under-16s category, so the team will now disband with a number of the players expected to go on and sign for semi-professional clubs.
The super squad signed off in style with a narrow 1-0 cup victory over Hendon. The result was especially sweet for match winner Marco Popovic, who was playing against his twin brother Stevan.
Meanwhile Hampstead’s Under-10s rounded off their championship winning campaign in the Camden and Islington Youth League with a 2-1 win over Lyndhurst. Nicholas Lloyd Williams fired Hampstead in front before an own goal doubled the advantage.
Lyndhurst pulled a goal back, but Hampstead held out for the win and now look set to finish at least six points clear at the top of the table.
