Admiral’s storming 45 goals clinch title
Camden & Islington Youth League
CHAMPIONS Islington Admiral Youth were celebrating on Friday when they beat Bridge Rovers to clinch the Under-10s ‘B’ League title with a game to spare. Admiral (pictured) sailed in to an early lead when Josh Smith unleashed a thunderous low drive from the edge of the area. Within minutes Tommy Walford doubled the advantage when he headed home Joseph White’s inch-perfect cross to seal a 2-0 victory.
Despite the recent absence of leading scorer Wayne Blackman, Admiral have taken the title in style, scoring 45 goals in 13 games and losing just once all season.
St Pancras edged closer to being crowned champions in the Under-11s ‘A’ League after they beat Admiral Hawks 4-1.
The Saints started well and took the lead when Alex Tegene picked the ball up on the right, ghosted past three Admiral players and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper. Tegene added his second midway through the first-half, before Alfie Francis struck twice to seal the points.
Title rivals Hampstead are four points behind the Saints with a game in hand after super sub Aameer Murphy and sharp-shooter Charles Prince led them to a 7-2 win over Lyndhurst.
Parents and supporters of both clubs will be bracing themselves for a nail-biting finale with Hampstead and St Pancras due to face each other in a title decider on the last day of the season.
Under-14s league winners Isledon Wolves ended their campaign in style on Friday when they came from a goal down to beat Lyndhurst. Aiden O’Brien bagged a brace to complete the comeback as Wolves clawed their way to a narrow 2-1 victory.
