Justin hits gold for the Snow Herons
KARATE kid Justin Parker struck gold on Saturday at the Tang Soo Do Federation Championships, which were held in Cardiff. The triumphant 10-year-old, who lives in King’s Cross, was among a team of eight members from the London Snow Herons Karate School that competed in the tournament, dedicated to the traditional Korean martial art.
Under the watchful eye of senior instructor Faith Andrews, Justin put in a series of commanding performances as he won the green-to-brown belt form display event after out-pointing his rivals in various attacking and defensive techniques.
In a record turn-out, more than 700 fighters from across Europe and America turned out to take part in the prestigious competition.
The success continued for the Snow Herons, which is based on Ampthill Square estate in Camden Town. Altan Hatipoglu, 10, and Stephanie Lyon, 12, both captured silver medals in their respective sparring events, while Elle Kilminster won double bronze in her sparring and board breaking categories.
There were also creditable displays from Sabins Kavaja, Bethany Kilminster, Toni Parker and Shane McGunnigle.
