Explosive start as Blitz blow away Senators
NATIONAL champions of British American football, the London Blitz, were back with a bang on Saturday when they started the defence of their title with a commanding victory against the Gateshead Senators. Bolstered by a host of new players, the Finsbury Park-based club outclassed, outnumbered and outplayed their opponents as they won their season opener in style.
New running back Jonathan Chilton, who joined from the East Kilbride Pirates in the off-season, and Gareth Dawbrey each scored two touchdowns, while veteran Marcin Lai, Stuart Franklin and Lloyd Buxton also powered in to the end zone. Nathan Holt kicked an extra six points to lead the Blitz to a titanic 48-0 victory.
Coach Mark Moss said after the game: “It was a good start to the season for us. The trip allowed us to spend more time together as a team and I hope our team spirit will serve us well down the stretch.”
The next Blitz game is away to rivals Coventry Jets on Saturday May 24.
