Six sixes in Buckley’s super-ton

Division One

Winchmore Hill 163 ao, Hampstead 167

BRANDON Buckley notched up a stunning century on Saturday as Hampstead started their season with a resounding 10-wicket victory against Winchmore Hill.
Having sent the home side into bat, Paul Weekes and Dexter Thomas combined to form a lethal bowling partnership as they claimed nine wickets between them to leave Winchmore all out for 163 in 51.1 overs. In reply, brilliant Buckley hit six sixes and 10 fours as he stole the show with 102 not out off just 91 balls. Fellow opener Imraan Mohammed also chipped in with a well-crafted score of 58 as Hampstead finished the afternoon on 167 off 27.1 overs.

Division Two
S Hampstead 166 ao, Shepherds Bush 238 ao

SOUTH Hampstead’s season started on a sour note on Saturday when they slipped to a 72-run defeat in their first home match against Shepherds Bush.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. It proved a match winning decision as Michael Padbury hit 67 runs to help give Shepherds Bush a score of 238 off 52 overs.
South Hampstead could only manage 166 in reply as they suffered a disappointing opening day defeat.

Division Three
Highgate 214-7, Kenton 213 ao

HIGHGATE put in a commanding team display to beat Kenton narrowly in their opener at Shepherd’s Cot on Saturday.
Skipper Dave Benton won the toss and chose to field first. Tony Duckett made the breakthrough, before following up an early wicket by winning a controversial lbw decision.
Highgate turned to their spin bowlers as Syed Karrar and Craig Gourlay were introduced into the attack. Both found a good line as they went on to claim five wickets between them. But it was the return of Duckett that ended Kenton’s resilience as he finished the innings with 4-47 to leave the visitors on 213 all out from 54.3 overs.
James Warburton led Highgate’s charge as he put in some thumping drives and cuts on his way to a maiden half-century. Warburton eventually fell, caught on the boundary, for an excellent 72, as the home side climbed to a winning 214-7 in the last over.
