Akhtar maiden century puts Hampstead top

Middlesex County Cricket League
Division One

HAMPSTEAD took over at the top of the table on Saturday despite being held to a frustrating draw in their home match against Southgate at Lymington Road.
Having lost the toss and been put in to bat first, the hosts posted a challenging total of 277-6 off 51 overs thanks to Mohammed Akhtar’s first century for the club and a determined 92 from opener Imraan Mohammed.
The allotted 120 overs were whittled down by the weather, and by the time Southgate started their reply Hampstead were left with just 39 overs in which to dismiss their opposition.
Dexter Thomas provided the perfect start when he made the breakthrough in the second over following a sharp catch by Mark Harvey. Two spectacular run outs by captain Paul Weekes put the home side within touching distance of victory as Southgate struggled to 99-6 off 27 overs.
But with 12 overs left, Hampstead’s hopes of winning were dashed when bad light brought an early end to play.

Division Two
Acton 232-7, South Hampstead 0-0
match abandoned

SOUTH Hampstead are still awaiting their first win of the season after the weather wrecked their away fixture against Acton.
Acton took a commanding lead as they recorded a knock off 232-7 before declaring after 44 overs. It was a target that the visitors were never given the chance to chase as heavy rain forced the match to be abandoned.

Division Three
Hornsey 146 ao, Highgate 194-4

STAND-IN skipper Craig Gourlay led Highgate to a table topping six wicket win over Hornsey on Saturday.
Gourlay dominated from the field as he claimed five wickets at the expense of just 14 runs. Syed Karrar, Tony Duckett and Jake Sharland were also in devastating form as they combined to restrict Hornsey to 146 all out from 48.2 overs.
With just 27 overs available to bat due to rain, James Warburton added to the 72 he scored against Kenton last week with another well-crafted half century.
Graeme Jenkins and Nick Brunner also scored valuable runs as Highgate reached their winning score of 149-4 with just one over remaining.
Highgate host Enfield on Saturday.
