Welcome to Gordon
• I READ that the application to allow Gordon Ramsay’s new hotel to act as a bar had been turned down (Ramsay faces food fight over boozing at York and Albany, May 15).
This comes at a time when pubs/bars are shutting down all over London (due to difficult conditions exacerbated by the extra 4p on pints and coming to terms with the smoking ban).
The much-beloved Bull and Last in Highgate Road has just closed, and the Torriano is also under threat. Many pubs have closed in Hampstead in the last couple of years. Surely at such a time we should be encouraging new bars? I read in your current edition that Ramsay’s new bar would be “a traditional gentleman’s bar”; hardly the sort of place that would encourage yobbish behaviour.
