10 years for knife killer
A MAN who stabbed his neighbour to death in a row over a dog lead was jailed for 10 years on Thursday. Residents in Chalton Street, Somers Town, scattered in horror when Derek Davis, 41, from nearby Levita House, killed father-of-two Martin Wilder, 33, on an August afternoon last year.
At the April trial, Croydon Crown Court heard how Davis armed himself with two kitchen knives after an argument over a dog leash which Mr Wilder, who lived in Churchway, Euston, had failed to return.
The detective in the case, Inspector Zoe Harris, said Davis had acted in “a fit of temper”. In his defence, Davis said Mr Wilder had fallen on the blade.
Mr Wilder died on the street outside New Horizon youth club after being stabbed in the abdomen. Davis was cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter.
