Regent’s Park youngsters fight back in title decider to clinch championship

GOAL hero Alexander Von Daehne led Regent’s Park to the Under-11s ‘B’ League title on Friday when he scored twice against rivals Chapel in the Camden and Islington Youth League.
Supporters of both sides flocked to Market Road to watch the titanic encounter, with Chapel needing at least a point to keep their title hopes alive.
Chapel got off to the perfect start when they took the lead within minutes of the kick-off.
But Von Daehne pulled Regent’s Park, who are nicknamed the Panthers, level when he scored from close range after the goalkeeper parried a shot from Ricky Louch.
Panthers’ shot-stopper Toby Lane played his part in the triumph with two brilliant saves to deny Chapel the lead.
In the final minutes of the match Von Daehne completed the comeback with a powerful header to give Regent’s Park a vital lead. Chapel desperately pushed forward in search of an equaliser, consequently leaving gaps at the back that the Panthers pounced on to increase their advantage.
Cillian Davis made the game safe, before Randell Williams added the finishing touches to a generous 4-1 victory.
Meanwhile in the Under-10s ‘A’ League Isledon Wolves ended their campaign with a hard-fought draw against Angel Islington. Wolves dominated the first-half and took a deserved lead thanks to a clinical finish from Jourdi Massueme.
Despite the efforts of John Macdonald and Billy Shannon, Angel battled back in the second-half to earn a share of the spoils.
The only title still undecided is the Under-12s ‘B’ League where Crown and Manor need to find a win in their final two games to be confirmed as champions. Second place Lyndhurst still have an outside chance, although they will have to beat Crown and Manor in their final game.
The closest title run-in came in the Under-9s South Division where both Chapel and ‘A’ Class picked up 35 points from 14 games. With both teams losing just one game throughout their entire league campaign, it was Chapel who finished top thanks to a superior goal difference.
