Railings have ‘put lives at risk’

LIVES are being put at risk at the entrance to a taxi stand skirting St Pancras International where new metal railings have been installed, commuters have warned.
The wrought iron fencing (pictured) was erected on Thursday in Camley Street, King’s Cross, on a major access path from King’s Cross to Camden Town.
Maria Dunn, 43, a coroner’s officer at St Pancras Coroner’s court in St Pancras Way, passes the railings on her way to work.
She said: “If a mother was walking with her child she would have to decide whether to put her life or her child’s life at risk.
“A taxi came really close to the kerb and nearly hit me. Something needs to be done or we’ll end up with more bodies coming in here [the coroner’s court].
“It’s a waste of money, but more importantly it’s dangerous.”
A London and Continental Railways spokesman said: “The railing is there to signal the end of the footpath and to encourage people to cross the road at a safe point.
“As a result of concerns being brought to our attention, we are now considering installing signage to ensure that people cross the road at a more southerly point.”
