Supermarket post offices?
• I APPLAUD the Belsize Park Community Group for their valiant attempt in attempting to keep open their Englands Lane sub-post office.
However, I am disappointed that Jonathan Cohen has decided not to back the community, when this has been a sub-post office for many years (Countdown to final post office closures, June 12).
The Post Office has been haemorrhaging money for years.
The government, by removing many of the services the Post Office used to provide, has largely caused this.
In addition, the rise of technology has meant that many of the items that we used to go into our local office for are now available online and in our local shops.
However, for some elderly, low-income families and disabled, that is, the most vulnerable people in the our community, a closure means much more that having to travel to a larger Crown post office for services.
One constant in today’s society is the opening of new supermarkets. I believe that larger companies such as: Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, Morrisons and also the local council, have a duty to the community and where necessary, should open sub-post offices in their branches.

Snail mail?
