Homeless woman shot on doorstep
Police hunt airgun sniper
A WOMAN who was shot in the head by an airgun sniper as she sat on a doorstep believes she may have been targeted because she is homeless.
Donna Green, 31, was outside a house on Greenland Road, off Camden High Street, last Tuesday afternoon when she was hit by the lead pellet on her right temple.
The pellet, which was bent out of shape by the impact, was similar in type to the one that killed West Hampstead father Robert Lettin when a burglar shot him through the chest at close range last January at his home in Lichfield Road.
Ms Green, who lives in a hostel in West Hampstead, says she wants to warn neighbours to be alert to the threat.
“The police are taking this very seriously but if they are unable to find the person who did this then I want people to be aware that there is someone with an airgun in this part of Camden Town,” she said.
Ms Green believes she may have been shot because she is homeless.
“I don’t know what is worse – a random attack, or a deliberate attack on a homeless person,” she said.
Her canvas hat helped deflect the pellet, which bruised her head but did not penetrate her skin.
A Camden police spokeswoman confirmed that an investigation is under way. The incident is the sixth in the borough to involve an airgun in the past six months.
