Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 3 July 2008

Mural is enough to drive one up the wall…

• RE the mural on the corner of Herbrand Street and Tavistock Place (Home is where the art is but residents want mural removed, June 26).

I opened my windows one morning a few weeks back to discover scaffolding and this mural being erected.
Local people were not consulted and I was told it was some French designer’s work that had been pasted to the brick wall. There were a group of photographers snapping away.
I contacted the local authority at the town hall to find out if it would be removed, as it was turning a brown colour and starting to peel off and looked unsightly. I also suggested that those who had erected it with or without the council’s permission remove it at their expense.
I also pointed out that a brush used for pasting on the mural had been left rather precariously on a ledge on the roof which was a health and safety risk.
As yet I have only had an email from the council saying who was responsible but nothing else. At the time of sending this email the dangerous object continues to balance on the edge of the roof. I would warn people not to walk under it as it may prove lethal.
So much for my council taxes that I pay and that I am forced to look at this thing from my window every day without any “do you mind”? Social anarchy rules in Camden.

Beautiful art

• I CAN'T believe the comments about the most beautiful sensitive piece of wall art I’ve ever seen. (Home is where the art is but residents want mural removed, June 26).
Every time I walk nearby I make a point of stopping and enjoying this lovely piece of art. Shame on those who want it torn down, if only there were more of this “stuff” in London.
