Prolonging the agony
• RESIDENTS read with dismay the results of Camden executives’ vote on the Town Green for Talacre Gardens (It’s the new space race in fight to preserve our parks forever, June 26).
However, I have heard subsequently that the executives did not entirely close the door on us.
They are planning to prolong our agony by carrying out surveys before making up their minds once and for all. This is welcome news as a straight “no” would have caused enormous alarm locally.
The executives’ intention is apparently to try to find out whether residents want protection of Talacre Gardens (as if they didn’t know already). If they did, they would then suggest either a Town Green or the creation of some trust. The trust would be granted a long lease on the park and we, the residents, would run it.
This begs the question as to who would pay for running this trust?
People around here have little money to spare, let alone invest in a fancy trust. Wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper, therefore, to just simply give us the Town Green? Give us the Town Green and ensure that our park is safe from predators. Yours faithfully
