Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 3 July 2008

Park gates

• I WAS particularly interested in the points made by Camden officers to recommend that the council should not grant the Town Green status at Talacre Gardens.
They claim, among other things, that they would not be able to lock the gates at Talacre Gardens were the park to become a Town Green.
My family and I live on the edge of Hampstead Heath.
Golders Hill Park is part of the Heath, yet it has well defined boundaries which are gated and the park is locked at night. No one seems concerned that part of the overall Hampstead Heath area should be so protected from intruders at certain times of the day.
There were even occasions in the recent past when the Superintendent, Simon Lee, locked the gates for an entire day because of high winds and another because of ice and the perceived danger these might cause.
Open space clearly can be managed in diverse ways.
