Anaconda's promotion party
JUNIORS from Anaconda Swimming Club made a splash on Sunday when they enjoyed the gala of their lives to clinch promotion to the First Division of the National Speedo League. A team of 30 youngsters from the club, which is based at the Cally Pool in Caledonian Road, outclassed their opponents as they dominated their Division Two meet in Braintree, Essex.
Morgan Mockler set new marks in both the 50m backstroke and the 50m butterfly as he hit home with winning times of 35.57 seconds and 36.42 secs respectively.
Team-mates Jake Usher and Freddy Cornwell also set new club records in their respective 25m front-crawl and 25m butterfly events.
Olivia Howe recorded an excellent win in the 25m breaststroke in a new personal best time of 23.08 secs, before joining forces with Maisie Parker, Iona Ocak and Emily Hepden to storm to victory in the Under-9s medley relay.
The record books continued to be rewritten with Ocak, Parker, Lauren Spiers, Redi Qosja, Nina Morris-Evans, Padraig Lynch, Miguel Maragno-Roma, Andrew Bartha, Naomi Jeffs, Aimee Rose-Nahal and Ben Bedwell all hitting new personal bests.
Meanwhile, Anaconda’s senior team were also celebrating after collecting a haul of medals from the Middlesex County Long Course Championships over the weekend, which were held in Ealing.
Short-course champion Dominic McLoughlin won triple gold in the 12/13 years age group, touching home first in the 50m and 100m front-crawl and the 50m butterfly. Dom was in outstanding form as he also won two silver and three bronze medals.
Competing in her first long course championships, rising star Kathleen Bartha won two magnificent medals, taking silver in the 50m front-crawl and bronze in the 200m backstroke.
Clubmate Mei Corbett also reached the podium after clinching silver in the 50m breaststroke.Anacondas’ promotion party
