Fight for this post office
• THE closure of our post office at 18-22 Crowndale Road was a disgrace.
As one of the last customers there when it closed at 1 pm, I was saddened that, again, policymakers who obviously could not care less about local people, their needs, or the fact that the post office there had 3,000 customers.
It also made a profit, but this had not the slightest interest for Royal Mail and the government.
I went there, saw it close at 1pm and now Anil Patel and I have this idea that, if Camden Council are genuine about having post offices in libraries, then why not retain this post office site? It is still there, has all the equipment and furniture needed and Anil and his staff could be retained to manage it by the council.
To that end I have emailed Councillor Keith Moffitt, leader of Camden Council.
Do you support this? If so, write to Cllr Moffitt, Town Hall, Judd Street, WC1H 9JE.
I am also worried at the future of the whole shopping parade now the post office has gone… and am seeking a meeting with Camden’s property services department on the whole issue of market rents and associated worries of the shopkeepers.
We cannot become a centralised system and local needs and local services like the post office at Crowndale Road dismissed into history by so-called policymakers who don’t know Somers Town…
Is there anyone out there who can offer a solution or has Somers Town lost yet another badly needed service with no real alternative?
