Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 10 July 2008

Wrong place for a ‘shop’

PLANNING permission has just been granted for a temporary building, one storey, to be erected on the grass area bounded by Hampstead Road and Robert Street in front of Rydal Water.
It is to house the West Euston One Stop Shop for a period of four years, hardly temporary, while their present location is being demolished and, presumably, rebuilt.
Letters were sent to all residents in the area asking for comments and objections, all of which would be taken into consideration. Needless to say permission was granted without any further consultation – why ask for our opinions and then ignore them?
There are very few green areas on the estate and this happens to be one area people use, as it is not sealed off.
This new building, however small, is going to be not only an eyesore but an intrusion as it is inviting people onto our estate on a daily basis which we do not want.
There are plenty of empty premises in the area that could house this place without destroying one of the few green areas in the borough.
