Exhibition celebrates the unique character of Fitzrovia
• I WRITE as a ward councillor for Bloomsbury, which includes a part of Fitzrovia.
The Charlotte Street Association has been working for 35 years to preserve the unique character of Fitzrovia, which straddles the border between the boroughs of Camden and Westminster.
Today (Thursday) the association officially launches a fascinating exhibition – Fitzrovia Revealed – detailing that unique character in words and visual images. Such an exhibition is particularly timely since – at least until the “credit crunch” – Fitzrovia has been overwhelmed by development pressure, with every other building being developed by one property owner or another. This exhibition reminds developers and local people alike of the special place that is Fitzrovia.
The exhibition takes place in a property owned by the Fitzrovia Trust, another long-standing organisation in the area. It will be open at 57 Warren Street tomorrow (Friday) from noon till 6pm, and over the weekend, from noon to 4pm. I hope your readers will take the opportunity to visit this unique exhibition.
