Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 17 July 2008

Coventrybombing

ALTHOUGH Bruce Kent has made some corrections to his earlier review of Human Smoke by Nicholson Baker, he has still not got it right about the Coventry air raid.
He states (Unorthodox perspective on Hitler pre-1941, July 10) that: “it was... the first [large scale indiscriminate bombing] experienced by this country.”
Well I was with my family in London throughout 1940 and, in September of that year, two months before Coventry, somebody was dropping bombs on us. This heralded the beginning of the Blitz. If it was not the Germans, I should be pleased to know who it was.
