Professor Lee Johnson, 'a very fine scholar'
DAD 'KNEW SON WOULD MURDER HIM'

Art historian Professor Lee Johnson
battered to death

AN eminent art historian predicted he would be killed by his own son just months before his death.
The Old Bailey heard how Professor Lee Johnson, who wrote a number of books, winning prizes and acclaim from the art world, was found battered and badly burned at his Hampstead home.
His son, Michael, was convicted of manslaughter on Monday.
Social services and police said last night (Wednesday) that offers to install a panic alarm were not taken up as concerns were expressed for Professor Johnson’s safety.
The New Journal today reveals the secrets of the case as neighbours come to terms with the tragedy that unfolded in quiet Lyndhurst Road.
Friends of Professor Johnson said he had done all he could to help his son, but could not repair their troubled relationship.
Those close to his son said Michael’s life had been ravaged by severe epilepsy and that he struggled to cope with powerful anti-seizure drugs.
His condition worsened with the death of his mother and the breakdown of his marriage.
