Rush hour crash driver arrested
A LORRY driver in his fifties was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a motorcyclist was killed at King’s Cross on Monday morning. The rider, described as a man in his late thirties but not yet named by police, died at the scene after a collision with the eight-wheeled dumper truck. Witnesses said the truck was turning left into Guilford Street from Gray’s Inn Road when the rush hour smash happened. One said: “He [the motorcyclist] went under the left-hand wheels. He never had a chance.”
Gray’s Inn Road was closed between Euston Road and Theobald’s Road until lunchtime on Monday.
Crash investigator Sgt Don Simpson said the lorry driver had been released on bail while his team carry out a reconstruction of the incident, and called for a couple who were at the scene to come forward.
He said: “We’re interested in speaking to any witnesses, in particular a man and a woman who identified themselves as medically trained to other witnesses at the time.”
He asked witnesses to call the Euston Collision Investigation Unit on 020 7388 6806.
