Smithy pots a first masters title

TABLE-topper Paul Smith potted the lot as he won the first-ever Chalk Farm Pool League Masters Championships, which was held at the Boston Arms pub in Tufnell Park.
Smithy, who plays for the Unicorn in Camden Road, beat Boston Boys’ Oz Tatlisoz (right) 4-1 in the final to take the title and claim a cash prize of £100.
In the final outing of the season, 32 players from the Chalk Farm League battled it out in one last bid for glory in two grueling days of action over the weekend.
The knockout competition was devised for players with the best win percentage record from the season. In a series of thrilling first game matches, Mark Piercey, from Division One champions Boston Potters, beat Richard Garrad, who plays for Division Two champs Murray Arms.
In the second round, John Cinnamond, Jim Read, Joe Flaherty, Simon Wild, Neil Hegarty and Mike Kelly joined Smith and Oz Tatlisoz in the quarter-finals.
Hegarty, Wild and Smith all progressed to the final four with close 3-2 victories over Cinnamond, Flaherty and Read respectively, while Oz Tatlisoz beat Kelly 3-1.
The semi-finals were more one-sided with both Paul and Oz winning through to the final with 3-0 score-lines. In the end it was Smithy who sealed a deserved victory to take home the trophy.
