Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 14 August 2008

Low-down on borough hotspots

• GIVEN current concerns about rising fuel prices it is interesting to note that within Camden some areas have substantially higher average temperatures than others.

Lower-lying inner-city areas (for example, Bloomsbury) are often a degree or two celsius warmer than the higher suburbs (Hampstead and Highgate) because of
1) the artificially created “heat island” of inner London and 2) their lower altitude.
All other things being equal, heating bills are probably 10 to 20 per cent lower in Camden’s warmest areas than the coolest.
