Pub is toast of community centre
• THE New Journal report on the success of the event at the Torriano pub in raising money towards the building of a youth centre omitted to say that the “youth centre” forms part of a proposed extension to the Kentish Town Community Centre building in Busby Place (Pub festival boosts centre, August 14).
The centre already runs some successful youth programmes, alongside activities for pre-school toddlers and local elders. It would like the proposed increased space to be dedicated to youth activities.
The extension can only be built if the centre is successful in its bid for Lottery cash, which also requires it to find match-funding of £360,000. Some of this match-funding has already been raised, which will help the Lottery application, but much more needs to be done.
The fundraiser at the Torriano pub, which was much appreciated by Kentish Town Community Centre, raised £1,600, despite bad weather.
