Wedding plans blitzed
• I AM most grateful to you for publishing the correspondence about St Paul’s Church in Camden Town, especially Ken Benney’s letter, which enabled us to make contact after 70 years.
However, I would like to take issue with Billy Osborne over the fate of the building (Don’t write off church, July 3). During the Blitz the church did not suffer a direct hit, but two landmines landed close enough to disturb the foundations. In 1949 it was noticed the nave was parting company from the steeple. The nave was declared beyond repair and the building closed immediately.
My fiancée (Gwen Fielder) and I were devastated as we were due to marry in the church just a few days after it closed.
