Roger Daltry kicks off Arsenal’s new charity partnership
THE Who frontman Roger Daltrey teamed-up with Arsene Wenger and stars from the Gunners’ first-team this week to kick-off the club’s new partnership with the Teenage Cancer Trust. The Trust has been selected as Arsenal’s Charity of the Season for the current campaign, and the club hopes to raise £300,000 to help fund an Education Zone within their state-of–the-art day care centre in the University College Hospital (UCH) in Euston.
The centre will be the first of its kind in Europe and construction is set to start in 2010. Among the special quests at the launch was Spiros East-Christoforou, who is being treated for a brain tumour on Teenage Cancer Trust’s unit at UCH.
Spiros, 19, who lives in Islington, said: “I had such a fantastic day at Arsenal – I’m a huge fan and it was incredible to meet the players, Arsene and also Roger Daltrey who is as big a fan as me! I even got a full Arsenal kit which I got signed by the players and the manager - it’s a day I’ll remember for the rest of my life!”
