On guard at station
• WHILE looking through some papers belonging to my late grandfather, Charles Harris, I came across a faded copy of the duty roster for St Pancras Station Home Guard detachment. The document is dated June 24, 1940, and refers to a post at the St Paul’s Road signal box and south end of Camden Tunnel.
Others on the list are AJ Enstone, A Adams, WS Adams, CE Barrow, H Bennett, R Blizzard, GD Chitty, ED Cornell, CE Dazley, JH Elmes, GWH Jenner, GH Johnson, AW Hale, H Hardcastle, H Herman, LG Lawrence, W Oates, TP O’Shaughnessy, HC Ransom, JD Sallery, WE Rice, WH Smith, HA Warwick, JW Watson and F Webster.
The Home Guard duties were undertaken at night, and by day my grandfather worked as a railway clerk.
I would dearly love to hear from anyone who served in the St Pancras Station Home Guard or who was employed at the station during the war.
