‘The Great One’ to stay with Townies

‘I am sorry’ web message following alleged assault

KENTISH Town Football Club’s coach plans to press charges against one of his players following a touchline incident at the scene of their FA Cup defeat last week.
Clement Temile, nicknamed “The Great One” by fans for his history with the Nigerian International team, was knocked to the floor when one of his unused substitutes allegedly head-butted him during their replay with Wellingborough Town last Tuesday.
Police are understood to want to speak to a man who drove off in a car immediately after the alleged assault.
Mr Temile’s agent, Cliff Rhodes, confirmed that the former Nigerian national player would stay with the club despite the incident.
Mr Rhodes said: “It’s disappointing considering what Clement has done for the club. That’s Sunday morning stuff – not the FA Cup.
“He is still very upset about the incident but he’s not about to up sticks. The matter is now in the hands of the police.”
The player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been banned permanently from the club.
Police were called to Wellingborough’s Dog and Duck ground in London Road shortly after Kentish Town were beaten 2-0 in their first-ever appearance in the FA Cup.
In the days following the incident someone claiming to be the player began posting apologies on football fan message boards.
The first message posted on the Fans Focus forum by a user referred to as “Ex Footballer” read: “I was the player who had the incident with Clem but its not as big as everyone is making out.
“I am passionate about the game and it was one moment of madness and I am sorry for what has happened and I am prepared to take whatever comes my way.”
Another posting from the same contributor said: “I’m gonna disappear from the game... I don’t think anyone will give me a chance at this level again after everything that’s happened. What a waste of talent, and I have to live with this now for the rest of my life.
“If I can’t play then I hope I’m allowed to support [Kentish Town] whenever they play as I love the club and gave them my all whenever I played. I played with my heart on my sleeve every game.”
A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said: “We can confirm we received a complaint of assault on the evening of Tuesday August 19 from a 42-year-old man from the London area following an incident at Wellingborough Town’s London Road ground. Inquiries into the incident are on-going.”

If traders have been warned about the consequences and still ignored them in this way they should be named and shamed. It's disgraceful.
