Veteran is Sow much quicker!
HIGHGATE Harrier Allan Sowden won the 200m in the Veterans Athletic Club Championships at Kingsmeadow on Sunday. The sprightly 68-year-old was well ahead of the chasing field as he came into the final straight to record a winning time of 33.4 seconds.
Islington-born Sowden, a retired filing clerk at the Royal Free Hospital, was a middle-distance and cross-country runner in his earlier days, winning club titles for Highgate during the 1960s.
On Sunday he also finished third in the 100m in 16.6 seconds.
Elsewhere, British Masters Champion Greg Smith ran in the 400m event at the Herne Hill Open Meeting in Tooting Bec on Saturday. He finished sixth in 51.87.
The Highgate Harriers will be holding their open meeting for track and field athletes at Parliament Hill on Wednesday, September 10, at 6pm.
