Hampstead defy spinners for win No 7
Middlesex County Cricket League
Division One
Hampstead 244-6, Brondesbury 243 ao
HAMPSTEAD collected their seventh win of the season on Saturday when they stumped neighbouring rivals Brondesbury. Having dismissed Brondesbury for 243, Hampstead openers Brandon Buckley and Shaun Levy knew their first wicket partnership was crucial. Middlesex batsman Levy began the innings with a flurry of boundaries before he top-edged a pull-shot to be brilliantly caught for 43.
Buckley and new partner, Sumeet Sharma, continued to take the fight to Brondesbury. Buckley was only becalmed when he was struck on the helmet twice in quick succession. No doubt affected by the double blow, he was caught out shortly after, finishing one run shy of his half century.
Hampstead struggled with spin as Brondesbury claimed three quick wickets for just 50 runs to leave them requiring 90 to win, but Imraan Mohammed combined with debutant Matthew Floyd to guide Hampstead to a four-wicket victory with a winning score of 244-6.
Division Two : South Hampstead 230 ao, Twickenham 234-4
A WELL-CRAFTED half century from Graeme Farley wasn’t enough to prevent South Hampstead slipping to a six-wicket defeat against Twickenham on Saturday. Deciding to bat, Farley’s patient score of 51 and a knock of 36 from James Williams helped South Hampstead reach a respectable score of 230 before the fall of their final wicket in the 53rd over.
But a mighty stand of 95 not out from Paul Warwick undid all of South Hampstead’s hard work as Twickenham hit a winning total of 234-4.
Division Three: Highgate 247-9, Wycombe 119 ao,
STAR bowler Syed Karrar claimed eight wickets at the expense of just 51 runs on Saturday as Highgate kept their slim promotion hopes alive with a comprehensive 128-run victory over Wycombe. Invited to bat first, Highgate made a steady start with openers Matt Holly and Jake Sharland notching up respective scores of 36 and 16. Zac Curtis added 21 more runs, before Ponniah Vijendran, who finished on 58 not out, and Karrar, who hit a fluid 34, allowed Highgate to declare on
247-9 from 52 overs.
In reply, Karrar recorded a season’s best with 8-51 as he tore through the Wycombe batting order to earn Highgate their sixth win of the campaign.
