Captain Weekes a winner all the way

Middlesex County League
Division One

Hampstead 221ao,
Teddington 192 ao

HAMPSTEAD collected their eighth win of the season on Saturday with a dramatic 29-run victory over Teddington at Lymington Road, West Hampstead.
Skipper Paul Weekes won the toss and opted to bat first on a worn pitch. The home side got off to a convincing start, with Brandon Buckley (pictured right) and Imraan Mohammed posting an opening stand of 86 runs.
Buckley showed commanding shot selection as he recorded a blistering half century. But when he was dismissed by Dawid Malan it triggered a mini collapse and Hampstead lost a further three wickets for 17 runs.
As has so often been the case this season Hampstead were indebted to their redoubtable captain as he led the resistance.
Weekes went on to hit a patient 63, taking the hosts to a total of 221.
Switching to the field, Hampstead made an immediate breakthrough when Zac Khan had Toby Bailey caught behind in the first over. Khan soon claimed a second victim, while Sumeet Sharma dismissed Middlesex batsman Malan for eight to leave Teddington reeling on 109-5.
A sixth-wicket partnership of 63 from Nisarg Patel and Nishel Patel pulled Teddington back into the game.
With time running out Weekes brought himself into the attack and immediately reaped the reward as he claimed three wickets to break Teddington’s resistance and earn Hampstead all 10 points.
The win was the perfect fillip for Hampstead ahead of their Middlesex Cup final against neighbouring rivals Finchley on Sunday.

South suffer short sharp shock

Division Two

South Hampstead 58 ao,
North London 59-4

SOUTH Hampstead’s encounter against North London lasted just 38 overs as they slumped to a six-wicket defeat in their penultimate game of the season.
Having decided to bat first, South Hampstead’s innings came to an end after just 24 overs as they posted a score of just 58 runs. Despite losing four wickets along the way, it was a target that North London reached with relative ease as they hit their winning tally within just 14 overs.

Promotion still a hope for Highgate

Division Three

Ickenham 129 ao,
Highgate 131-4

TONY Duckett and Syed Karrar combined to keep Highgate’s slim promotion hopes alive on Saturday after a convincing six-wicket victory over Ickenham.
Deciding to bowl first, Duckett and Karrar needed just 34.2 overs to dismantle Ickenham’s batting order as they claimed six and four wickets respectively, leaving the home side with just 129 runs to protect.
Highgate’s reply got off to a poor start with Jake Sharland falling in the first over. Will Bowley and Matt Holly took the score to 31 before Holly was bowled. With Zac Curtis falling cheaply soon after, Highgate were struggling on 34-3.
The visitors continued to stutter with Bowley being dismissed for 17. But skipper Dave Benton, 45 not out, and Graeme Jenkins, 31 not out, joined forces to lead Highgate to a winning score of 131-4 in the 23rd over.
With one game remaining Highgate are eight points behind leaders Uxbridge and seven behind second placed Enfield.
