Bowling club's plan for houses
A BOWLING club is facing a battle with neighbours over plans to build new homes on its car park. The Mansfield Bowling Club, in Croftdown Road, Dartmouth Park, will hold an open evening at the beginning of October to show plans for nine new properties and a basement car park on their land.
But the club, which was founded in the early part of the last century, has been criticised for putting profits before the welfare of its neighbours.
Chris Barton, whose home overlooks the club, said the application would face opposition. “This is a nightmare of an idea,” he said. “It will mean massive over-development. The bowling club has been here for years without the need to build and it will invade the privacy of a hundred households. “This will mean extended building works and it is not environmentally acceptable.”
A letter sent by club directors said it had submitted a planning application with Grandfield Properties Ltd for the site. The open evening will take place between 6.30pm-8.30pm on Monday, October 6.
