Champions in devastating form as new league campaign opens with goals galore
CHAMPIONS Reddot roared back into action this weekend when they started the defence of their Division One title in the Camden Sunday League at Hackney Marshes.
Taking on Division Two winners CS Maritimo, the Dots took the lead courtesy of Paul Reid’s clever snapshot.
The striker grabbed his second minutes later when he added the finishing touches to Jon Dowsett’s defence-splitting through ball.
Reddot were running riot, and looked to have put the game beyond Maritimo when debutant Anthony Clark plundered two more goals.
Mitchell Graham pulled a goal back for Maritimo. But their celebrations proved short lived as Reddot further increased their lead with goals from Wesley Borghys and Jason Medford.
Maritimo continued to battle for every ball, and pulled another goal back through Morey Kabasu.
But the day belonged to Reddot, who sealed a resounding 7-2 victory late on when Jon Dowsett got the goal his overall performance deserved.
Meanwhile in Division Two newcomers Sir Robert Peel introduced themselves in style with an 8-2 win over MDM.
Man of the match Karl Aldridge was in explosive form, grabbing a stunning first-half hat-trick.
Aldridge was replaced by Elvyn Blackwood, who came off the bench to score twice. James Lindsay netted a further two goals, while skipper Charlie Kanaris also got in on the scoring as Peel sent out an early warning to their title rivals.
Darren Richards and Memet Demir were on target for MDM.
Elsewhere two goals from Hiren Ichharam and a strike from Chris Evans saw Dinamo Dorigo start their campaign with a 3-0 win over Mayville.
The only other game in the division saw Boston Arms battle back three times to take a point in their game against Hornsey.
Hornsey twice took the lead through James Frewin, but goals from Jack Shepherd and Martin Whitelock levelled the game at 2-2. Hornsey edged in front for a third time thanks to a stunning goal from Dan Stirling. But again Boston hit back when Terry Hartley equalised to make the final score 3-3.
Boston should have snatched a late victory, only for Joe Thompson to miss his crucial penalty.
FC Bertoli were the big winners in Division Three, beating Tevekkeli 10-5. Lord Tredegar and Packenham FC both hit nine in their respective wins over Crouch End Rangers and Mayville ‘B’. The only other result saw River Fleet beat Enate United 3-1.
