Gunners go six-goal crazy

RACHEL Yankey scored a hat-trick as Arsenal Ladies hit six for the fourth successive game on Sunday.
Gilly Flaherty, Kim Little and Kelly Smith were also all on target as the Gunners beat Charlton 6-2 to cruise through to the second round of the League Cup.

Norwich 4, Spurs 0
AN experienced Norwich side made light work of a young and rearranged Spurs Ladies team on Sunday.
The Canaries flew into an early lead, but had to wait until the second-half before wrapping up the points. Their attack netted another three goals to put the game firmly beyond Tottenham’s reach.

Camden Town 3, Katabella 1
MARY Guest fired Camden Town to the top of the table on Sunday when she bagged a brace against rivals Katabella.
The Kats opened the scoring when Jen Coupland netted her fourth goal in two games.
Table-topping Town hit back to take the lead thanks to Guest’s second successive double.
Jac Thayer wrapped up the points with the goal of the game as she collected the ball in her own half and ran the length of the pitch before smashing home a third.
Meanwhile, Hampstead are still awaiting their first win of the season after suffering a 4-0 defeat against Newham.

Northwood Youth 5
PLAYERS from Islington Borough Ladies still had plenty to celebrate on Sunday despite losing their opening match of the season.
It was the long-awaited debut for the new side, who have been put together in a bid to give girls in Islington the chance to play as competitively as boys.
Playing in their new all-red kit, the Under-16s squad made a spirited debut as they took on Northwood Youth in their inaugural league game as a proper FA-affiliated team.
Islington struggled to find their feet as Northwood raced into a 4-0 lead at the break, with all the goals coming from set-pieces.
But the determined novices improved in the second-half, and looked to have unearthed a star striker in Chloe Wade, who scored twice to reduce the deficit. Keeper Megan Allen also put in an eye-catching performance, saving a penalty to keep Islington in the game.
With a minute to go, Northwood scored from another set-piece, converting a near-post corner to seal a flattering 5-2 win.
After the game, Islington Football Development Manager Michael MacNeill said: “Considering this was their first game together I was really pleased with the performance and the attitude.
“They just need to get some games under their belts now. From what I’ve seen today, if we keep working at it, I expect us to be able to hold our own in this league.” |
